Plan for Taunton
As Mayor, Estele Borges will take concrete steps to get Taunton back on track — making your government more responsive, transparent, and fiscally responsible.
-
1. Restore fiscal responsibility to the Office of the Mayor where salaries have more than doubled to nearly $1 million under the current administration;
-
2. Hold the line on developers to stop over-development and give residents a louder voice and ensure every neighborhood is heard, valued, and empowered;
-
3. Establish a professional Code of Conduct for all City employees (including the Mayor) to protect them from political interference, increase accountability and prevent future scandals at City Hall;
-
4. Stabilize costs for hundreds of manufactured home residents and seniors through decisive action that Estele has been championing for years;
-
5. Conduct a professional audit of city finances and operations to end the sweetheart deals for the well-connected.
-
6. Establish an Economic Development Council made up of business, non-profit, education, and government leaders to advise the city on how to accelerate safe, clean commercial and industrial growth;
-
7. Conduct a full assessment of how the city used $30 million in federal COVID funds;
-
8. Begin a comprehensive land use analysis to identify legitimate opportunities for commercial and industrial development;
-
9. Update the city’s outdated master plan, last done in 2018, and include measuring the financial impacts of residential development on city services, public safety, and schools;
-
10. Continue efforts first proposed by Estele to reduce taxes for seniors and those living on fixed incomes.
-
11. Accelerate efforts to expand veteran housing, including a strategy Estele previously proposed, which the current administration has ignored.
